Where Champions Are Born

The Goulburn River Valley is steeped in a rich horse racing and breeding history that dates back to the turn of last century when an imported stallion Comedy King won the 1910 Melbourne Cup and was retired to Nooralim Stud in Nagambie.
Since then many famous and decorated Stallions have called the Goulburn River Valley region home and horse enthusiasts from around the world flock to our studs to purchase the best quality race horses from the most renowned breeders in the world.

One of Australia’s most famous Melbourne Cup winners Rain Lover was bred by the Nagambie stallion Latin Lover who stood at The Nook Stud, famous for the champion thoroughbreds Orgoglio and High Peak.

In recent times champions to come from the Goulburn River Valley region include two Golden Slipper winners in Danzero and Flying Spur from the Chatswood Stud and champion Stallions, Noalcoholic, Rubiton and Encosta de Lago from Blue Gum Farm.
In Euroa you will find Champion Mare Let’s Elope, setting the world alight with her wins in the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups, while retired Champion Stallion Rory’s Jester calls the paddocks of Collingrove home.

The Goulburn River Valley region boasts rich soil perfect for growing grapes and breeding champion racehorses. The region also enjoys the best in Country Racing with meets at Tatura, Yea, Alexandra, Seymour and Kilmore, and a comprehensive pacing cup calendar.
