Charming country pubs
If you really want to get to know a town, you must visit its local watering hole to discover its soul. It’s where the beer is ice-cold, yarns are spun and local legends begin.
There’s a country pub to suit every taste, style and budget in the Goulburn River Valley Region. Pubs have come a long way, offering experienced staff, character and charm, alongside great menus and long histories.
Some of the oldest establishments in Victoria are located within our region. Many, like the GV Hotel, Shepparton have been recently renovated. The “GV” has also received accolades for its contemporary style and unique take on the traditional country pub.
From the White Hart Hotel, Longwood – a little oasis showcasing over 40 superb local wines – to the Flowerdale Hotel, boasting one of Victoria’s most picturesque backdrops, you’ll find the character and charm of country pubs well worth the visit.
Rachel’s Place, Seymour is a quaint 1850s red cedar cottage with quirky personality and friendly hosts, whilst the Tatura Family Pub offers ridgy-didge Aussie pub meals for lunch and dinner.
For a pub experience unlike any other you must head to the Seven Creeks Hotel, Euroa, a freshly-renovated 160-year-old Victorian heritage building where the hosts offer a diverse modern country menu that delivers quintessential homely tastes.
Take a scenic drive to the Mount Pleasant Hotel, Alexandra, a favourite among locals. Featuring a balcony that overlooks Alexandra’s pretty main street, this country pub offers a great range of delicious meals.
With its cathedral ceilings, large dining area and cosy booths, you’ll love the atmosphere at Hogan’s, Wallan, where highly-skilled chefs serve gourmet ingredients from local producers. There is an impressive wine list and the enclosed playground is a huge hit with families!
The 100-year-old Kinglake Hotel is a true country pub, serving coffee and cake, hearty country-style meals and delicious cooked breakfasts on weekends. Sit among the old ferns and shady trees in the beer garden or share stories around the open fire in the bistro lounge.
The Toolangi Tavern offers great food (like the famous Toolangi Burger), stunning views and loads of atmosphere. Its highly-respected chefs turn out some fabulous specials! With acres of parking and beautiful gardens it’s a great spot to meet.
The historic Tooborac Hotel & Brewery is a family-friendly pub renowned for its inviting atmosphere. Try the famous rabbit pie – the hero of the district – washed down with an ale from the brewery.
