About Us
Goulburn River Valley Tourism operates as the peak regional tourism organisation for the Goulburn River Valley region.
Established in July 2009 under the 'United Tourism' name, Goulburn River Valley Tourism operates as a non-for-profit Company Limited by Guarantee.
Goulburn River Valley Tourism is a partnership between Local Councils and the tourism industry.
An Independent Chairperson drives the Goulburn River Valley Tourism board’s effectiveness, enabling the business of Goulburn River Valley Tourism to be managed by the Directors to promote its strategic development and growth.
History
Goulburn River Valley Tourism was established in August 2009 following the “United Approach to Tourism” Report, commissioned to review tourism across the Greater Shepparton, Mitchell, Murrindindi and Strathbogie Council regions; and identify methods to grow the economic benefit of tourism and to encourage a cooperative approach to tourism development, skills training, product development and marketing.
The United Approach to Tourism report recommended that, “the four Shires each contribute financial and human resources to the establishment of a Regional Tourism Organisation that encompasses and represents the four local government areas,”
A Memorandum of Understanding between the four participating Councils was signed in 2009 committing each of the Council’s to a financial and in-kind commitment through until 30 June 2012, with a review of the structure and commitment taking place at this time.
